“I want to try a gentler first treatment.”
Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
A lower-intervention step, often a sensible place to begin.
For many couples and individuals, including those using donor sperm.
IUI is often a first treatment because it is less involved, less costly, and less physically demanding than IVF. It can be a strong fit for people with unexplained fertility questions, mild sperm factors, or anyone building a family with donor sperm.
We time the procedure to your cycle, sometimes with gentle medication to encourage ovulation, and the insemination itself takes only a few minutes. We will be honest with you about whether IUI is a reasonable first step or whether your situation points elsewhere.
What to expect
- 1Cycle monitoringA few short visits for bloodwork and ultrasound to find your most fertile window.
- 2Optional medicationIf it helps your odds, we may add oral or injectable medication, explained fully first.
- 3The inseminationA brief, in-office procedure that most people find quick and comfortable.
- 4The two-week waitWe stay in touch, answer questions, and schedule a pregnancy test at the right time.
Good to know
- Success per cycle is generally lower than IVF, which is why we talk openly about how many cycles make sense for you.
- IUI is a common and affirming path for single parents and same-sex couples using donor sperm.
- If IUI is not the right fit, we will tell you plainly rather than repeat cycles that are unlikely to help.
Typically $600 to $2,000 per cycle, before medication
